How To Import Data
After you have exported the MLS data, you should have four files:
Membership.csv
Organization.csv
HomeTeaching.csv
VisitingTeaching.csv
Now you need to get those four files onto your computer that has
MIS2PALM installed, usually this is the same computer where you have
installed the Palm Desktop.
Processing the Data
Step 1: Run MIS2PALM
Step 2: Select the data file
location
- Browse to folder where Membership.csv is located and select it.
Step 3: Under Address List -
Click Edit options
- I suggest using vCard format
- Default output file path is fine.
- Select output options as needed
Step 4: Under Member Reports -
Click Edit options
- Default output file path is fine.
- Select output options as needed
Step 5: (optional) Call History
- Click Edit options
- Probably can skip this for now.
- Call history is where MIS2PALM tracks what callings have been held by
who for how long.
Step 6: Under Address List -
Click Generate
- This creates MIS2PALM.vcf
Step 7: Under Member Reports -
Click Generate
- This creates MemberReports.csv
Step 8: Close MIS2PALM
Importing the Address Data
Step 1: Run the Palm Desktop
software. Select the Address or Contacts tab and a category to import
the data into. (You might want to create a new category like ‘Ward
Members’.) If the category already exists, you will need to delete all
existing records so you don’t get duplicates when you import the new
ward data. It is easiest to delete the records from within the Palm
Desktop.
Step 2: Select File | Import
from the menu. For "Files of type:", select "vCard File (*.vcf)". Then
browse for MIS2PALM.vcf and press "Import".
Step 3: Now HotSync. The data
from the file will be synced into your Address Book.
Importing the Member Reports Data
Step 1: Run the Palm Desktop
software. Select the Memo tab and a category to import the data into.
(You might want to create a new category like ‘Ward Callings’.) If the
category already exists, you will need to delete all existing records
so you don’t get duplicates when you import the new ward data. It is
easiest to delete the records from within the Palm Desktop.
Step 2: Select File | Import
from the menu. For "Files of type:", select "Comma Separated
(*.csv;*.txt)". Then browse for MemberReports.csv and press "Import".
Step 3: Line up the Palm Memo
field names with the fields in the file being imported. The first
record of the import file shows the field names to make it easier to
match them up. Un-check the fields that are not being imported or used.
You can scan forward or backward through the records to see if
everything matches up correctly. The Memo fields should line up and the
Private field. If the Private field is checked for importing, all
records will be marked private.
Step 4: Press OK
Step 5: Now HotSync. The data
from the file will be synced into your Memos.
