Fastpass

Fastpass is a 'line reservation' system that Disney patented.  Fastpass allows you to get a reservation for an attraction and keep you from waiting in lines.  There is no charge for fastpasses.

Disney benefits from fastpass because they have guests wandering through shops while waiting for their fastpass return time.  They also have happier guests because they didn't have to wait in line and can experience more at the parks.

You benefit from fastpass because you can plan your time better.  You don't have to wait in line for the best attractions and can experience more attractions in a given day.

How do I get a Fastpass?

Go to the fastpass machines with your park tickets.  You don't have to have everyone go to the fastpass machines.  It works well to send a runner or two.

One at a time, insert each park ticket into the fastpass machine.  For each park ticket (paid admission) you will be given a fastpass ticket.  The fastpass ticket tells you what time you may return to experience the attraction, your 'return time'.

Tip: Fastpasses do not expire.  They are good anytime for the remainder of the day.  Ignore the end time of your fastpass and use it anytime that day.

Can I have more than one?

The fastpass system restricts how many fastpasses can be issued per park ticket.  The rule is you use your current fastpass ticket or wait two hours before getting another one.  The system is setup to limit you to no more than two fastpass tickets at a time.  On every fastpass ticket, it lists the time when you can get your next fastpass ticket.

Tip: The computer system does not track if you actually used the fastpass ticket.  You can get your next fastpass ticket as soon as the beginning of your return time. or two hours after you received your current fastpass ticket, which ever comes first.

When should I get a Fastpass?

A tough question to figure out is when to get a fastpass or to just wait in line.  Every attraction that has fastpass installed will have a time display board at the fastpass dispensing area.  The display board indicates how long the current wait (stand-by line) is and what the fastpass return time is for fastpasses currently being given out.  You'll have to make the call if it is worth your time to wait in the stand-by line or get a fastpass ticket for a time later in the day.  This will usually only be an issue early in the day.

Tip: Because fastpasses do not expire, get fastpasses first thing in the morning even though you do not need them yet.  You will be able to use the fastpasses later in the day when the park fills up.

Maximizing Fastpass

As much as you can, always have fastpasses for two attractions in hand.  This can easily be done if you send a runner or two to the next fastpass attraction just before you use your current fastpasses.  That way you will have your next attraction reservation made as soon as allowed by the system.
